Features

(1)Screw and barrel are advanced split design, screw by a variety of interchangeable screw components. Therefore, according to different materials, different process requirements can be flexibly combined into the ideal screw configuration, to achieve the purpose of a multi-purpose machine, a multi-function machine, and the worn thread components and barrel can be replaced partially, reduce maintenance costs.

(2) The shape of the screw thread element of the instrument adopts computer optimization design, with good self-cleaning ability and the best volume power.

(3) The instrument can be combined with a first-order, second-order or multi-order vacuum exhaust structure, with strong exhaust devolatility, can complete a variety of high devolatility mixing operations.

(4) The thread elements are made of high quality alloy tool steel, and the working surface is hardened, which is suitable for a variety of mixing operations. For users with general operating requirements, steel nitride cylinder can be used; for users with wear or corrosion operating requirements, bimetal cylinder with high wear resistance and corrosion resistance can be used.

(5) The reducer distribution transmission box adopts the reducer and torque distribution as one of the structure, compact and reasonable, the main parameters are determined by optimization, strong reliability. The drive motor is stepless speed regulated by frequency conversion governor. The driving motor and the transmission box are connected by an elastic pin coupling to realize direct flexible transmission, which can ensure the smooth and safe operation of the equipment.

(6) The host machine is equipped with a feeding system, the feeding amount can be continuously and smoothly adjusted, and the production capacity of the unit can be conveniently adjusted within a certain range.

(7) According to user requirements, can also be configured with multiple feeding system to meet the needs of different production processes.

(8) The temperature control system of the instrument adopts cast aluminum or copper heater heating, heating fast, long life, cooling by high temperature heat conduction oil cooling, no temperature impact, circulation cooling.

Applications

  • Hot melt extrusion (HME) is the process of applying heat and pressure to melt a polymer and forcing it through an orifice in a continuous process. HME is well-known, developed to produce polymer products of uniform shape and density, and its industrial application dates back to the 1930s1 . It is one of the most widely applied processing technologies in the plastic, rubber, and food industries and is used to prepare more than half of all plastic products including bags, films, sheets, tubes, fibers, foams, and pipes2 . HME has more recently been applied to the healthcare industry where it is used to manufacture medical devices and mix active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) with polymers3 . HME is used to enhance the API’s bioavailability or prepare precursors for thermoplastic drug-eluting devices, such as subcutaneous and intraocular implants and intravaginal rings. This technical brief discusses the equipment and principles of HME with an emphasis on its use in the pharmaceutical industry.
