Some problem that affect the quality of printing:



1. Diameter Tolerance

The inconsistent diameter of 3D printer filament will cause serious printing problems. For example extruder failure, if the 3D printer filament suddenly becomes too thin, the gear will not be able to compress the filament and feed the it. Another effect of the reduction of the diameter of 3D filament is to cause heat return at the hot end. In addition, the 3D filament expand and become blocked in the throat, resulting in the inability to feed.

The other extreme is when the diameter of your 3D filament suddenly becomes too wide, and the extruder is not strong enough to push it in or clog it in the throat.Another effect of the increase in diameter is that the gears of the extruder tear apart the plastic surface, leaving nothing to grab the extruder and stop it.

2. Roundness

When in contact with the extruder wheel, the filament will always be squeezed due to the squeeze of the extruder wheel on the plastic.This actually reduces the roundness of the filament, but it's consistent across the entire line axis, so it doesn't really affect the print quality.

In other words, the filament of the consumable roundness over the length of the entire line axis is still important.This is because the 3D consumable suddenly loses its perfect circle and becomes oval, just like increasing or decreasing the diameter of the 3D consumable, which will lead to extrusion failure and affect the printing quality.


3. Filament Knot

When 3D filament winding at high speed, due to the movement of the concentric rows cannot guarantee a smooth move consistently, plus the influence of the filament diameter and roundness, as a result, the filamentis stacked in wrong layers and then knot. If the 3D filament is knotted in use, the printing will be terminated.


Above three points: filament diameter, roundness and knot, are still the main problem of3d printing users, of course, there are also some other problems, such as brittle and break easily, bond strength, print smooth, drawing, warp, etc.But we are only talking about the improvement of 3D printer filament machine, and those are the three points above.


3D printer filament machine is made by feeder system, extruder, die, cooling water tank, blow dry device and the laser measure, traction, storage rack, winding unit, etc, the whole line length probably between 9 and 11 meters (the design of different manufacturers have different). In normal production, the speed is in commonly 80-80 m/min.Under such a length and speed, to ensure that the filament diameter and roundness meet the higher requirements, this is a huge challenge, must put the whole line of open loop system as far as possible into a relatively independent and connected state of closed-loop control.

1. Stable extrusion

To achieve accurate filament diameter, the first premise is to ensure the stability ofthe3D printer filament machine extrusion, which involved with the rationality of the design of screw structure, feeding smooth, good plasticizing and melt transfer stability;Secondly, smooth extrusion, so the quality of the driving unit is very important.There is also the consistency of temperature control. 2. Controllable constant cooling temperature

Due to the influence of gravity, the resin melt is easy to be influenced by gravity when it comes out of the mould, which makes the wire appear ellipse.In the process of working with the filament manufacturer, we found that the temperature of the water tank used for cooling and shaping is the key factor affecting the roundness of the filament.Therefore, we have improved the 3D printer filament machine structure of cooling water tank, the way of entering and leaving water, the way of temperature control, the temperature control system and so on, striving to make the temperature of each section of water tank controllable and constant.The temperature of the flume is also one of the key factors influencing the filament diamete.

3. High precision winding and cycloid module

In order to solve the problem of irregular winding and easy knotting of 3D printer filament, we have carried out long-term research and development and test on 3D printer filament machine. Now we can finally realize online 3D printer filament neat winding.The most important part of this is the high precision winding mechanism to ensure that every piece of filament can adhere to the spool and filament within the specified trajectory.
